what does it look like when an institution centers care for others and inclusive pedagogy? how might online courses reflect these values?
the school of continuing studies bachelor of liberal science program was rolling the first ever fully online bachelor’s degree program at georgetown on coursera, as a result, they needed to ensure consistency in their design choices. as a school in georgetown, they have to ensure that courses are aligned with georgetown’s jesuit values, they also wanted to ensure the course design was also aligned with inclusive pedagogy to ensure the learning environment is equitable.
over the course of my master’s degree, i partnered with the center for new designs in learning and scholarship to develop a tool that guides learning designers in the design and development of online learning environments that foster equity, accessibility, and inclusion. this project is one i am most proud of and through it, i have given two conference presentations one at the teaching, learning, innovation, and summer institute and the other at the diversity, equity, and student success conference hosted by the american association of colleges and universities. due to it’s innovative and iterative design, i have amassed a lot of materials document its evolution. if you’re interested in learning more about this tool, take some time to explore the drive below; it contains documents starting from my first ever iteration to the current tool kit.
